New Shoes And New Pillow
Posted by: Audrey Post date: January 3rd, 2009I popped into The Athlete’s Foot late last week and picked up some new shoes. They had a clearance sale on and had some well respected brands at very good prices. I did their fitfootpick thingy, where you walk along a mat and it shows you that your arches don’t actually touch the ground. Well, in my case that’s what it showed, but I knew that all along, so no genius points there. After having much discussion with the sales man (“my metatarsal heads hurt a bit after 20k,”, ” So don’t run that far then” Duh!; “Why don’t you try the shoes I’m wearing?”, “Because you don’t do long slow trail runs and I don’t want to do fast 10k races”. ) I purchased a pair of Brooks Glycerin, which were designed to suit my feet – extraordinarily high arches and the need for good forefoot cushioning. I was quite happy with my purchase.
Took them for a 10k run (with interruptions as the kidlets gasped and spluttered on their bikes), and no real problems. Felt okay, different to the Sauconys, but I figured that was to be expected, new shoes and all. Yesterday morning I went out for another 10k, and by 7k I was in agony. Really nasty plantar fascia pain, had to take some Nurofen to get to work last night, and was still too sore this morning to go out with Moreton Bay Road Runners. I popped back to the store and to their credit, there was no arguments or discussion, they’re going to order me in the Saucony’s I wear and if they can’t get them for any reason, they’ll give me a full refund. That’s good post sale customer service in my view. I will, however, stick to my Saucony’s for the rest of my young life.
I have discovered that just about every song you want to sing along to, you can substitute the word “banana” for the whole lot. We listen to a lot of ABBA – you can sing “Mamma Mia” like this “Bananana, bananananana, bana, banabanabana” and so it goes. Try it, it adds a whole new dimension to singing along to the radio, and completely drives your spouse nuts ![]()
I have a new pillow. For many months I’ve woken up with a sore neck. My pillows are very thin, and one pillow is too flat, and two pillows are too high. Either way it hurts. I tried Hubby’s pillow and it’s wonderful, I wake up and my neck is fine, but unfortunately he wants it back. Mainly because when he uses my pillows, one pillow is too flat and two pillows are too high. So, I went out yesterday and purchased a fairly soft but high pillow, and it’s loooovely. This morning (after waking at 4am to go to MBRR and finding my foot still sore) I slept in until nearly 10am. I do love to sleep.
Has anybody made any New Year’s Resolutions? I’ve got a couple. Yeah, I’ll keep running and probably do a marathon sometime next year. I will finish the projects I start rather than leaving them half done because I’ve got really excited about something else. I’ll spend my time with people who enrich my life, either online or off. (Told Hubby he better start enriching,
). That’s probably enough. Oh, and I’ll blog a little more regularly!

Hey happy new year, new shoes and new pillow! I stick to my shoes religiously- I am terrified of change and I have no idea what I will do if they ever discontinue them! That is great post sale service at Athletes Foot- I am quite surprised.

My only NY resolution is to get my knee (and a few other medical issues I’ve been slack about) seen too.
