Nearly Made It!!

We took the kidlets out for a run yesterday evening, me on the bike,  and they are just powering along. They wanted to try and do a full 5km, and as they were very comfortable, chatting all the way, we thought we’d see how they went. They got to 4 1/2km, and Master 6 tripped over the edge of a driveway and grazed both knees. That was the end of our running for the night, but if they can do 4 1/2km and be cheery and chatty, and not out of breath or sore, they’ll have no problems at all going the 5km.

Master 6 has said that a few days after the 5km fun run, he wants to start training for a 10km. Ummm, nope. Plenty of time for that, and I would rather he didn’t injure his growing bones.

I, on the other hand, have done myself another injury.  The foot was fine, and I was out in the backyard when Miss 9 suddenly started screaming in pain. Of course I raced over to see if she was okay, and stepped in one of the shortcuts to China that the dogs have created. The front of my foot was on the edge of the hole, which meant that the weight of my body was on my heel as it dipped into the hole. I felt my injured muscle streeeetch, and it was so sore. Major bummer. Immediate ice, I had no nurofen tabs so had to scull 20mls of children’s orange flavoured nurofen syrup. That stuff is vile!! That was 4 days ago. It’s good now, but I’m not going to run until the fun run, in case I hurt it again. And, to top it all off, Miss 9 had just rolled an ankle, and was very quickly over it.

I have at last got my new Saucony’s. Athlete’s Foot were getting them in for me,  but were having trouble with the delivery of the new model. It didn’t really matter to me, because I wasn’t running, but I did want them for the fun run.  So, on Friday I went in and just got them to give me a refund, then I went to Intraining and bought them off the shelf. I think the guy at Athlete’s Foot wasn’t too thrilled, he told me he had been fitting running shoes for 14 years and had never met a foot he couldn’t fit. I think he wanted me to give him a shot, but I told him it just wasn’t worth the risk.

Tiger was ill last week. Very timid and quiet, and off his food. He had his collar caught in Sherbet’s canine teeth, which nearly strangled him – his tongue was blue and he was screaming in terror. Then, the next day, Hubby sneaked up behind him and yelled, “boogie boogie boo”, which scared the living daylights out of him yet again. I thought he’d had some sort of nervous breakdown, his behaviour was so bizarre, but as it turns out, it’s more likely he had a gut upset, maybe a bit of pancreatitis. He’s fine now, and completely back to normal. Honestly, if you’re going to be a dog and get sick, don’t be a vet’s dog.

The kidlets are starting to get back into the routine of schoolwork, Master 6 has his work done within an hour and a half of getting out of bed, so he thinks he can spend the rest of the day watching movies. Sorry to disappoint. At least he’s getting it done, although I must admit Miss 9 has had an attitude turnaround of late, and is working quite well. Hope it lasts!

Ouch … sorry to hear about the injury, hope it gets better quickly.

What model Sauconys did you get. I’m a huge Saucony fan, they are the best shoes for me, I wear the Omni’s and Hurricane’s.
