Mother’s Day

I had Saturday off work, and got up at 4am to pick up Jen and Cara to drive into Mt Cootha for a nice 10k trail run and coffee. It was dark and cold, and if it wasn’t for them, I’d have stayed in bed. As always, when we got there I was glad to be there. Good company, a nice run and of course the coffee at the lookout cafe. Here’s a pic of Brisbane from the lookout. It’s a bit cloudy in the pic, but on Saturday morning the sky was blue and the city looked great – you could see for miles.

I do so love having Saturdays off!

I slept in on Sunday morning big time. I think I got up at nearly 9am. Hubby had made latte and pancakes with maple syrup, and I put my feet up and read the paper. I must admit, I hate the commercialisation of Mothers Day; it just seems like another reason for the shops to encourage you to buy. My two made me some lovely drawings and gave me a little notebook – they know my obsession with stationery. I’d much rather have that than loads of gifts or flowers.

Dinner at Sizzler with my mum, my sister and her family and lo and behold, my two cousins who are visiting from Scotland. One cousin is heading home in a week or so, but the other is in Aus for a couple of years. She’s a podiatrist, and also runs a bit.  We’re planning on showing her the dark side, and taking her to the Lake Manchester trail runs.

I’m trying to work out the logistics of maybe doing the half at the Gold Coast. It would probably mean another sleep over for the kidlets, and they’re already doing that for Kokoda, so I’m a bit unsure. Will put out some feelers.

Other than Saturday, there’s not been a lot of running happening. I won’t get out tonight, courtesy of “mum and kids night” at Scouts, and tomorrow is” mum and daughter’s night” at Guides. If I get time, I’ll hit the treadmill this afternoon, but that doesn’t help the big black dog.I’m just going to need to make more of an effort for him.

Congratulations on getting up on Saturday morning… I wasn’t sure there was a 4 in the AM! Your mothers day sounds lovely and relaxing too… I made be a grown up but I’d still rather make mum something for mothers day than buy it!

Hey Audrey, glad to hear you had a great mothers day. Jenny and I had a great time at the Mothers Day Classic along with half of Brisbane I think… I’m doing the 11km event at Glasshouse this weekend – are you in for a run around Woodford. I think I’ve managed to convince a friend of mine to give trails a go for the first time.
