Back From Being Unfaithful

This poor blog has been sorely neglected, I’ve been spending my time with another. Another blog, that is. I was doing a 30 day blog challenge, where I had to put a post up on my new blog every day for 30 days.  Although I write fairly quickly when I whip up something for this blog, when I have to research a post, it can take me a while. So, everything else went on the backburner. Since I wasn’t running at all, I had nothing much to report.

It’s darned hard doing the one thing every day for that long, especially when you have ADD as I do. Well, I did an internet test and it said if I had more than 12 correct answers out of 20, I had ADD. I had 15 right. But, I stuck with it because there was a decent booty to be won, but tell you what, I’ll never do it again. I finished about 4 days ago and haven’t posted on it since. Don’t know how I fared in the competition either – the US$500 would be very nice indeed!!

But, back to the main story. The foot. I’d been going to the pod, doing my stretches and massages and taping, and it just plain wasn’t getting any better at all. The pod had also started focussing on my tight calves. That was going to be a never ending story. So, I had a run at club on Thursday night a week ago, then the next day I went over to Intraining for a second opinion. Only reason I didn’t go there in the first place is that it’s a pain to get to, and parking is non existent.

Steve the pod had a poke and a prod, pointed out the site of swelling and a nice little bruise on the inner side of my foot. Given the history, he suspected a muscle tear in the little muscle that goes from my heel along the inside of my foot. The “adductor hallicus longus”, if you really want to know. So, all my effort in massage and stretching was actually preventing healing. His prescription – no running for two weeks, tape, and ice at the end of the day.

I’m now at the end of my first week of no running and guess what? No pain. I’m pretty happy – obviously a muscle tear has a quicker recovery than PF.  The kidlets have their first 5k run at Sanctuary Cove on the 22nd, and I’m sure I’ll be fit enough to run with them – that was a big concern for me.

We’ve also registered a team for this year’s Kokoda Challenge in July. Sucker for punishment, but it’s a great event. Unfortunately, it’s on the same weekend as Miss 9′s home studio dancing competition again.  I know who’ll be looking after the kidlets for the weekend but it may be a bit tricky to get her to the competition. I’ll just have to make it up to her big time!

To the bloggers whose blogs I usually read and comment on, I’m a bit behind, but I’ll get there in the next day or so. No more 30 day anything for me!

It really is worth getting a second opinion isn’t it. Hopefully this time you’re on the right treatment regime and will be back on track soon (then maybe next year we can get together for that Great Ocean Road Marathon).
